SAILOR RESEARCH DATABASES

Maryland’s public libraries share a collection of Internet-based databases, purchased through the through Sailor database budget, which is provided to ensure all Maryland residents have equitable access to a common collection of core online research databases.  This common collection anchors the broader collections of online databases provided locally by the libraries. 

Sailor Research Databases are supported by the State of Maryland through the annual State Library Resource Center grant and made available free of charge to Maryland residents. The Database Review Committee was established by the Maryland Library Consortium to select and negotiate database products on behalf of Maryland libraries through Sailor.

Every Marylander will find something that supports his or her information needs in this collection, whether the interest is personal, professional, recreational or educational.

Auto Repair Reference Center

Auto Repair Reference Center

Find step-by-step auto repair procedures written specifically for the Do-It-Yourselfer, but comprehensive enough for professional technicians.

The Automobile Repair Reference Center (ARRC) database contains the most comprehensive collection of automobile repair reference information in the market. ARRC contains information on most major manufacturers of domestic and imported vehicles, with repair information starting as far back as 1945 for certain makes.

The database covers more than 35,000 vehicles from 1945 to present. Content includes

  • nearly 857,000 drawings and step-by-step photographs
  • approximately 99,000 technical service bulletins & recalls issued by the original equipment vehicle manufacturer

Search business related newspapers and journals. Non-journal content includes company profiles, country reports, industry reports, market research reports, and SWOT analyses.
Business Source Premier is the industry’s most used business research database, providing full text for more than 2,300 journals, including full text for more than 1,100 peer-reviewed business publications. This database provides full text back to 1886, and searchable cited references back to 1998. Journal ranking studies reveal that Business Source Premier is superior to the competition in full text coverage in all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance and economics. Business Source Premier contains full text from the world's top management and marketing journals including Harvard Business Review, California Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Industrial & Labor Relations Review, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Marketing Management, Journal of Marketing Research (JMR), Journal of Marketing, Journal of International Marketing, etc. The database also includes other sources of full text information such as country economic reports from the EIU, Global Insight, ICON Group and CountryWatch and detailed company profiles for the world's 10,000 largest companies.

Business Source Premier provides full text (PDF) for more than 350 of the top scholarly journals including Academy of Management Journal is available back to 1958, Accounting Review to 1926, Administrative Science Quarterly to 1956, California Management Review to 1958, Industrial & Labor Relations Review to 1947, Journal of Accounting Research to 1963, Journal of Finance to 1946, Journal of Marketing to 1936, Journal of Marketing Research (JMR) to 1964, Management Science to 1954, Operations Research to 1956, etc. Additional full text, non-journal content includes market research reports, industry reports, country reports, company profiles and SWOT analyses. Business Source Premier contains PDF images for the great majority of journals.

It is intended for public library patrons, as well as public school teachers and students, seeking reference and instructional information about small engine machinery maintenance and repair. SERRC contains the full set of small engine repair manuals from Clymer (http://www.clymer.com/). These manuals contain thousands of accurate and concise step-by-step maintenance and repair instructions for hundreds of small engine machines and their supporting components. Primary Search is available through Explora Primary Schools.

Primary Search, designed specifically for elementary school libraries and public library children’s rooms, contains full text for more than 70 popular, elementary school magazines. All full text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 100 magazines. Examples of publications covered in Primary Search include: Appleseeds, Boys’ Life, Cobblestone, Cricket, Highlights for Children, Hopscotch, Jack & Jill, Ladybug, Ranger Rick, Science World, Spider, SuperScience, Time for Kids, Turtle, and many more.

This database also provides the American Heritage Children’s Dictionary, 3rd Edition from Houghton Mifflin, and a School Image Collection of photos, maps and flags.
