Expanding your collection with OER: how to find quality OER to supplement your library collection
Presented by Laura Hicks, Education Specialist for School Library Media at the Maryland State Department of Education

Openly-licensed Educational Resources (OER) are, in many cases, an untapped opportunity for free, high-quality materials to expand a school library collection. They can be used to curate a collection that reflects current and in-depth knowledge in tight budgetary times. As with all information resources, OER must be evaluated carefully, to ensure that they are, in fact, free and openly licensed. The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has created an OER repository of over 300 vetted resources and, in the process, has learned valuable lessons about evaluation and legal considerations. Come join in this interactive work session to benefit from MSDE findings, and sharpen your skills in locating, evaluating, and curating OER resources to augment your school library collection.
