From 1999 to 2019 Sailor Cruise Accounts provided free Internet access to eligible customers of participating Maryland public libraries who have a computer with a telephone dial-up modem connected to a standard telephone landline.  Access speeds up to 56 Kbps could be achieved using this service.

Sailor Dial-Up Access service was introduced in July 1994.  At that time Maryland's public libraries pioneered free pulbic access to the Internet using the text-based vt100 terminal interface accessed by telephone modem connections to the Sailor Network. (That level of service was retired in July 2006.)  Second generation Sailor Dial-Up Access for the public began in July 1999 with the introduction of the original 30-Day Sailor Cruise Account which featured graphical web browser access to the Internet.  In July 2011, we introduced Third Generation Sailor Dial-up Access in the form of renewable, 180-day Cruise Accounts. The program ended on June 30, 2019.

Effective July 1, 2019, we are no longer accepting applications for new accounts and are not renewing existing accounts.

If you have an account that was active on June 30, the account will remain active until the expiration date that appeared on its Passport sheet (the sheet that had your username and password)..

Thank you to everyone who used the service over the years. It has been a pleasure to serve you.
